Burials and Crematoria
|
|
Most local authorities allow anyone to be buried in their cemeteries, but the fees payable are usually increased for people who live outside the catchment area. These fees vary according to whether or not the grave has been purchased and the depth of grave to be used.
Rules will apply regarding the erection of memorials.

Churchyards
Burial in a churchyard is open to all members of a parish, although few churchyards have any space available. People on the church electoral role at the time of death and a person who happens to die in the parish also has a right of burial in the churchyard.
Paying for a churchyard burial does not obtain ownership of the grave.
Rules will apply regarding erecting memorials in the churchyard.
Private Burial Grounds
Burial in private ground, other than a cemetery or a churchyard, is not forbidden by law, however no new private grounds can be opened without the consent of the local Environmental Health Authority
Crematoria
When cremation is chosen as the preferred type of funeral, the Funeral Director will arrange for the necessary forms to be completed by the family and by the Doctors when required.
