Balloon race winner is announced
On the 10th September 2011 G Wathall & Son Limited held it's first ever balloon race. Members of the public were asked to purchase a balloon to take part in the race. The winner balloon being the one that is returned having travelled the furthest distance from the release point in Derby City Centre. Approximately 300 balloons were released on what was a very windy day.
The winner balloon was purchased by Mr Ian Powell of Spondon and was found by Sigborn Dale in Dale, Norway, having travelled nearly 600 miles.
The fund raising event, along with a "Guess the balloons in a limo" competition that was held on the same day, raised in excess of £850 for the Laura Centre Derby.
